Let's go to the Farmers' Market
I love farmers' markets, and the market in Murray City Park off State Street is wonderful. Farmers will be there every Friday and Saturday morning through October. So put on a warm jacket and go. Last week I met MJ and Abbi Smith of Riverton. MJ was using a damp towel to wipe traces of soil off his gorgeous spagetti squash. He planted the seeds, labored in the hot sun to nurture the plants, picked the squash at the peak of perfection, carried them to market, and then gave those lovely squash a farewell rub down. I had to buy one of his squash -- and it was delicious.
No matter what the weatther, the farmers' market goes on. The tomatoes and beans, peaches and pears keep growing and the farmers must sell their bounty. Go!!!
The colors and shapes and textures are an artistic treat for the eye. And the produce is sooooo fresh and delicious. The problem is my eyes are bigger than my refrigerator. I come home with so many delicious fruits and veggies that I'm afraid I'll burst when I try to eat them all at once.
Tip: When you go, take lots of small bills in your wallet. It makes transactions easier.
