'Cinderella' comes to the ball at Juan Diego
The Performing Arts Department at Juan Diego Catholic High School in Draper will perform "Cinderella" Oct. 28-30 and Nov. 1. Curtain time is 7 p.m. in the school auditorium, located at 300 East 11800 South.
Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Cinderella" was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. Its re-creation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and so was a second remake in 1997, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother.
The production team of Steve Pay, Shelti Thompson, Brian Manternach and Erika Manternach bring to the stage their vision of the young kitchen maiden becoming a princess with a little help of magic from her Fairy Godmother. Cast members include Micaela Mannix as Cinderella, Joe Bridgeman as the Prince, Dani Quintana as the Godmother, Kelsey McGarry as the stepmother, Amy Cid and Taylor Muzatko as the stepsisters, rounded out by Brent Poppen and Savannah Leslie as the king and queen.
Over 70 students auditioned for this musical last May, and the current cast includes 44. A live orchestra will accompany the performers. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children and seniors, and can be purchased at the door. Call 801-984-7650 for more information.
