July entertainment set at the Sandy Amphitheater
The Sandy Amphitheater's "Twenty-Ten" concert season continues in July with several events planned.
On Wednesday, July 7, The Elders come to town. Take a group of Kansas City musicians with a passion for Celtic music, an Irishman with a love of all things American, and you get a cross-pollination of elements that is high octane and progressive, yet rooted in tradition. Since forming in 1998, the Elders have brought their musical mix to packed pubs, theaters and festivals across the globe. Their fan base is ever-expanding, consisting of people from all walks of life and of all ages. Many of their fans follow the band from gig to gig, sometimes driving for hundreds of miles to see their energetic performances. The band is familiar to many television viewers thanks to the PBS "Live at the Gem Theater" concert special.
Restless Heart takes the stage on Friday, July 9. The harmonies are pure silver, polished to a high sheen. Their music has electrified audiences around the world with six number one and 17 top-20 singles. This legendary country music group is celebrating over 25 years of entertaining with their first self-titled album released in 1985.
Eclipse performs on Saturday, July 10. The six members of the A Cappella group Eclipse originally met while performing at Utah State University. Eclipse has won numerous awards including "Best Vocal Group" in Utah's Best of State awards and the Pearl Awards "Group Recording Artist of the Year."
Pianist and entertainer Jon Schmidt plays on Saturday, July 17. His arrangement of Taylor Swift's "Love Story" and Cold Play's "Viva la Vida" titled "Love Story Meets Viva la Vida" is a You Tube sensation with over 1 million views.
Charley Jenkins performs on Saturday, July 23. Due to bad weather, this concert was re-scheduled from June 12. Jenkins was a finalist on Country Music Television's "Nashville Star," the same show that brought us Miranda Lambert. Jenkins, a Utah native, has country roots that run deep and a career that's gaining momentum. He has opened for many of the top 20 country music headliners including Lady Antebellum, LeAnn Rimes, Little Texas, Lonestar, Montgomery Gentry and Josh Turner.
Colin Hay rounds out the month on Saturday, July 31. While familiar to millions as front man and lead vocalist of the pop sensation Men at Work, "Down Under," "Overkill," "Who Can It Be Now?" Hay has re-introduced himself to a new generation of fans with his introspective solo music and songs featured on television shows, including Scrubs and on the soundtrack to the film Garden State.
The Sandy Amphitheater is located at 1245 East 9400 South. Ticket information available at 801-467-TIXX.
